Hi,

I noticed there doesn't seem to be a wikipedia article for
Roundup yet
(see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Round_Up_%28disambiguatio
n%29). I
consider this to be important; there are pages for Trac in
both english
and german wikipedia, and I found a Comparison of issue
tracking systems
page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_issu
e_tracking_systems)
not mentioning Roundup at all.

I just created an article in the german wikipedia (see
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roundup_%28Bugtracker%29),
accompanied with
a TAL article about TAL
(http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template_Attribute_Language
). I might do
likewise for the english site... but of course I'd like to
invite the
Roundup community to help.

BTW, I feel some information is needed about the name. My
first
association was the well-known herbicide, but herbicides are
supposed to
kill herbs rather than bugs. Having a look in the online
dictionary I
found that "roundup" has e.g. the meaning of
"razzia". Is there some
"official" etymology?

And, Richard: Would you mind to be mentioned in the
articles?

Of course, if you give me some info which must not appear in
wikipedia
public (for whatever legal reason), please tell me!

My guess as to the origin of the name here is "to round
up the issues" as in
"rounding up the cattle" as suggested by the
favicon that is displayed in my
firefox browser when visiting:

  http://roun
dup.sourceforge.net/index.html

Apropos the wikipedia article, I think that is a good idea;
I happened to find
it because it was tagged as a bug tracker in Debian's
archive and so I gave it
a try. I would not have know about it otherwise let alone
have sufficient cause
to track it down and try it out.

Bruce.

Gosh -- Seamonkey doesn't display this; I just saw it for
the first
time, explicitly requesting http://
roundup.sourceforge.net/favicon.ico...

Thanks

There is a TAL article now at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template_Attribute_Languag
e; maybe I'll add
a translation of my german Roundup article.

I meanwhile found Roundup mentioned on
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_issu
e_tracking_systems (in
the lower table, listing "Bug-tracking systems"),
but articles
explicitly targeting Roundup would be much more helpful.

BTW, regarding this list:

* What does the community think about adding TAL to the
"Implementation
language" column? To me, the usage of TAL is A Cool
Thing (tm)...
* Roundup features "Customizable workflow" and
"Unicode support",
   doesn't it?

I did it; there is a roundup article now at
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roundup_%28issue_tracker%29

I invite the Roundup community to improve it

Unfortunately there are already lots of Richard Jones'
recorded there; I
doubt many of them helped evolving Roundup...

thank you.

can we make the reference to Richard more unique by
including
his middle initial (assuming he has a middle name)?

Indeed, thanks. I've already made a minor edit to add some
detail

I'm really not sure I warrant a wikipedia article of my
own...

Great -- now I'm confident of not having written a load of
rubbish.

Well, you have coined Roundup for quite some time now.

It's somewhat difficult. I think it is necessary to mention
you in the
Roundup article. When there is a link (like now), visitors
will expect
to learn which Richard Jones is meant; I there is no link,
they'll try
the "Richard Jones" page anyway. Maybe it would be
appropriate to add an
unlinked list item to the disambiguation page; but the
wikipedia folks
might not like this solution.

And, of course, if you feel uncomfortable about an article,
this must be
respected.

I don't know the wikipedia rules - would it be acceptable to
link to
<http://mechani
calcat.net/richard/>?
