 Vuescan-8.4.56 loads the GUI but does not recognize either
scanner. 
 xsane correctly recognizes the HP-5p scanner even with sg
in the kernel.
 
 I tried loading
 none   /compat/linux/proc linprocfs  rw   0   0
 
 or
 
 none  /proc   linprocfs   rw      0     0
 
 
 ---------
 
 I can boot Redhat 9 Linux and run an older copy of vuescan
on this same 
 computer if that would be helpful.
