Hy everybody,
In my opinion and as i already read it :
- Session involves many participants (ie many UA)
- dialog involves two UA and only two.
- transaction is part of dialog.
A multipoint session will make use of dialogs wich are
constituted of transactions.

as far as I know,
the term "session" represents the relationship
between communication entities.
During the SIP session, there are many dialogs.
Dialog is consisted of series of transactions. Transaction
is the basic entity of SIP request/response model. For
example, 'A' party sends INVITE message to 'B', then INVITE
transaction starts.
Generally a dialog involves media processing ( RTP ) and it
ends with BYE normally.
Hope this correct.

As i know it a session is term used for voice tx. and a
dialog is identified by the call parameters i.e. callid,
from tag, to tag.
Please reply if this is incorrect.

Hello,
Is there a difference between a "session" and a
"dialog" in SIP? If we have multiple calls in a
session, would all of them have different dialog
identifiers?
thanks

Hi friends,
What is the use of creating session using SIP...Just to know
ONLY user
information are we using Session?
Even without Session i hope we can do a call, send message by
using necessary
protocol(because no where we are using SIP for doing
call..)...
Are we using session just to validate User?..If there is any
other reason
please let me know,or else if you have any link please
forward it to me
...it will be helpful for me..

Hi Balaji,
Just by using RTP packet ,To address and from address
..etc....i can make a
call..so what is the importance of creating session ?
I mean ,without using Session ,i can make a call by knowing
UAC address.

Hi
A session is more than just user information and user
authentication, although that is a big part of it.
A session remembers where data is to be sent and what state
the stream is in. Ofcourse it remembers the location and
some details of the receiver(s) and it controls the path of
the streams.
The existing session, created with SIP, is used when a
stream is paused or stopped. All not-media data (control
data) is sent using the existing session. Without session,
no terminal would know where to send its data, or to send
what type of data.
So you cant make a call without a session. You can make a
call without user authentication. And you can also make a
call without a SIP session.
Hope this helps..
Rudie

Hi Harish,
Putting aside the statement '"no where we are
using SIP for
doing call", just by knowing UAC address and rtp
packets session
cannot be established in all conditions. You need to know
the media
capabilities of that UAC. This all info should be exchanged
by means
of some protocol.
Using SIP protocol we are doing the same.
Regards
kishore
