how to resolve configure.ac error in SipX 3.6 version

Hi All,

i have downloaded the source code of sipX 3.6 stable
version.
when i tried to build the code by following the steps given
in

http://sipx-wiki.calivia.com/index.php/Building_Tips
and when
i ran this command

mkdir my-build-output
cd my-build-output
../configure.ac

i got this error

../configure.ac: line 2: syntax error near unexpected token
`2.57'
../configure.ac: line 2: `AC_PREREQ(2.57)'

the version of m4 i am having is
GNU m4 1.4.1

-->autoconf version is
autoconf (GNU Autoconf) 2.57

and the OS is Red hat 9.
and the kernel version is 2.4.20-8

please help me out in resolving this issue.
