The Network Engineer is responsible for participating in the planning and deployment of network systems by evaluating current and future business requirements. This involves maintaining current systems and working on new projects to meet companywide objectives. The primary systems to support include Layer 2 and 3 switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers, network monitoring systems, etc. Secondary systems to support include server systems (Exchange 2003, Active Directory Domain Controllers, File/Print servers, etc.) and internal client support issues.
We require the following knowledge/experience for this position:
•Cisco CCNA certification (or equivalent work experience) •Minimum three years of experience as a Network Engineer •Linux experience and/or certification is desirable.
•TCP/IP (thorough knowledge) •Routing technologies (RIP, static, BGP, OSPF) •SMTP technologies and processes •FTP transfer protocols and process •DNS protocols and processes •SNMP processes and technologies
•Serial Line technologies (for T1) •High availability through HSRP (Hot Standby Routing Protocol) •Voice over IP (VoIP) between HQ and remote offices •Network performance and troubleshooting •Trunking (
802.1q) between switches •VLAN management (per group) •Spanning Tree configuration and troubleshooting •Network architecture implementation •SCSI and IDE (disk technology) •Network cabling standards and specifications
•Windows Performance Tuning •System Testing knowledge and processes •Laptop configuration •Cisco switching and routing •Firewalls •VPNs
In addition, this candidate must have the ability to work flexible hours (including weekends) and work on-call on a rotational basis.
