When using shared working copies, a user changing the
permissions of a
file directly ('svn ps svn:executable') or indirectly (i.e.
through an
update), must own that file. There is no way to do this
automatically
which does not involve possible data loss.

Comment (by sussman):

This seems like an awfully obscure bug and scenario to me.
We don't talk
about sharing working copies *at all* in the book,
anywhere, and so I
can't even figure out where this bit of trivia could fit
in. Maybe we
could create a whole section about sharing working copies,
but (1) is that
really such a common scenario, and (2) isn't it a Worst
Practice that we
 try to discourage anyway?

My gut feeling is that this should end up in the website
FAQ or something,
not as a factoid in the book.
