Hi everyone,

I'm pulling my hair out here. I'm trying to compile
subversion. My
end goal is to have svn + apache.

I installed apache 2.2.4 on a cent os 5 64 bit machine.

I'm compiling svn as such.

./configure --prefix=/usr/local/subversion
--with-apxs=/usr/local/
apache2/bin/apxs --without-berkely-db --with-ssl
--enable-shared

I get this error at the end of the make

/bin/sh /root/subversion-1.4.5/libtool --tag=CC --silent --

mode=compile gcc -DLINUX=2 -D_REENTRANT -D_GNU_SOURCE  -g
-O2  -g -O2
-pthread  -I./subversion/include -I./subversion
-I/usr/local/apache2/
include   -I/usr/local/apache2/include   -o
subversion/libsvn_subr/
xml.lo -c subversion/libsvn_subr/xml.c
cd subversion/libsvn_subr && /bin/sh
/root/subversion-1.4.5/libtool --
tag=CC --silent --mode=link gcc  -g -O2  -g -O2 -pthread

/usr/lib/libexpat.so: could not read symbols: File in wrong
format
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [subversion/libsvn_subr/libsvn_subr-1.la] Error 1

Can someone please shed SOME light on this? I'm totally at a
loss  here.

Charlie

Is /usr/lib/libexpat.so a 32-bit library? Under SUSE Linux,
there are
separate 32-bit and 64-bit libraries. Maybe centos is
configured the
same way. I compiled Subversion as a 32-bit application, so
I didn't
have to point it at any 64-bit libraries.

My build notes also say that I had lots of trouble until I
defined
LD_LIBRARY_PATH in the build user's .bashrc:

export
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.4/lib:/usr/local/ssl
/lib

YMMV.
