| Imran, have you emailed Dell
themselves?
They are usually very helpful.
According to the Dell web site, you need an initial set of
setup floppy disks for Windows XP as the tutorial they provide tells you to
"Insert the first setup disk into the floppy drive and restart the
system"
But I believe that you have corrupted the CMOS settings
somehow by attempting to boot from the Windows XP installation
CD.
I suggest that you remove the CMOS backup battery and leave
the machine without the battery for a few hours to ensure that everything is
discharged.
Set the CMOS CLEAR jumper to clear the CMOS at the same
time.
If this doesn't fix the problem, you will have to contact
Dell by email through the web site and explain exactly what you did and the
exact error message(s) on screen currently.
I had a quick look with Google and had no useful results
from "Dell Optiplex 110 WRIT cmos error" or any variation of
it.
The error makes me think that the motherboard is no longer
able to WRITe to the CMOS flash memory for some reason.
Having looked at the specifications for the GX1xx range, I
wouldn't bother installing anything newer than Windows 2000.
The machine is really not good enough for XP and it will
run very slowly.
The processor could be anything from P2-266 to P3-600 using
Slot1, but even assuming the P3-600 you will find it frustratingly slow if you
do manage to install XP on it.
Good luck!!
