what brand and model is the computer? at startup, you may be able to
press f10 (depending upon the model) and do the things you would
normally need an xp cd for. If its not f10, at startup it might say
something about pressing a key for repair.
It may be time to find a little more about your computer, tell what
cpu, ram, harddrive size and free space available.
Also check your memory, try running the Microsoft Online Crash Analysis.
