afaik, for a PC yes. The BR reader needs ~ 25mbps to work for the BR
bitrate, unless encoded VC1.wmv. There are BRay Combo reader/burners at
Fry's for ~ $350 for a PC. But you do need an HDMI or DVI dual head graphic
card for the output to HDTV or WScreen monitor, but S (Y/C) can work but you
do not get the better quality. The price of HD/HDV rom's are suppose to be
going up. And burning HD is an adventure in coasters! LOL This stuff
comes from other users, and makes making a SD DVD look like middle school
and HD as Grad school! LOL I do all my HD/HDV with an HQuality codec
playing back on a USB drive. To save an HD 1920x1080 HQ file, requires a
raid with 150 or better Mbps bandwidth. Then it can be sent to a
USB/FireWire drive for playback. The HQ codec pak can be passed around and
installed on SSE2 only PC's for USB playback, but as I said, you need a dual
head graphic card, 256meg for the dual monitor, PC and HDTV playback.
Get a PS3 if your only wanting to watch movies and play games.
GoodLuck.... NAB, national association of broadcasters, is coming soon with
new hardware, so waiting a month, could find some other products. When the
Live NAB webcast feed is going, I'll post the URL. The webcast is suppose
to be for 3 days, but is usually repetes. Also, I will never get a BRay
burner, as the SD chip/stick's with enough room for HD movies are in the
works.
