i dont think i have a virus that is stopping the attachment thumbnails, i simply think its something to do with the newly installed mcafee program, as the problem occurred immediately the mcafee was installed. its being too agressive in its screening i feel?

this is possible... I would be tempted to do some online scans for virus... or get something like AVG and try using it... most of the computer magazine websites would scan for free for you.
