Andy Wardley noted in recent emails that he had removed the
Latex plugin
from the core Template Toolkit distribution, and that he had
created a
new Template-Latex distribution.

I have agreed to take over the maintenance of the
Template-Latex
distribution. I have uploaded version 2.16 of
Template-Latex (as
prepared by AW) to CPAN. There is a subversion repository
at:

    svn://svn.tt2.org/Template-Latex/

We will keep discussion of the Latex plugin on the main
Template Toolkit
mailing list initially.

I want to put together a wish-list of developments to the
plugin To
start with I have an old patch to make more of LaTeX's
capabilities
available, i.e. to get the latex filter to run bibtex and
makeindex on a
LaTeX document if necessary and to re-run latex if latex
issues warnings
about unresolved symbols. I will add that to the wish-list
and also my
concerns about the security implications of allowing
templates to
specify program paths.

I would like to hear from people who are actively using the
latex filter
with any suggestions and comments.

Regards
Andrew

I'd like to offer my public thanks to Andrew for doing
this.

I guess that's another good reason for moving non-core TT
bits out of
the core - to make it easier to hand over to other people to
take
responsibility for them.

If there's anyone interested in doing the same with
Template-GD or
Template-XML then please get in touch.

Cheers
A
