| Dear All, I want to bind the MAC Address with IP address, How is this possible???. So that if i have allocated an IP with a MAC Address then user would not be able to change the IP address if he want to use network resources. for example 00-0C-F1-E1-74-EF----------------192.168.0.2 So user can access my network resources. But if due to some security reasons if user try to change his own computer IP address then he should not be able to access network resource (packets should be droped).like 00-0C-F1-E1-74-EF--------------192.168.0.55 In order to use network resouces, user must change his IP to what i have allocated to his MAC Address... SO, THAT FROM "00-0C-F1-E1-74-EF" mac address specific IP should be bind. This is some thing like PAIR(MAC Address and
IP
address) Tell me how to bind such IP to MAC. Regards. Ahmad

| Dear , there in no relationship between the IP add and the MAC add and you can't guaranteed that the user who change his IP add to what you metioned will not be able to use your resources cause the unwanted IP laying in the same subnet . So the solution is to use IPSEC policy in order to drop the packets with the unwanted IP's or try to restrict the access of the user to his NIC to limit his ability to change his IP or MAC address's by using the GP. | I have a question concerning restricting user to access his NIC using the group policy: I am using Windows Server 2000 with active directory domain controller, I am restricting domain members from accessing the NIC properties. But, When the computer is disjoined and rejoined to the domain, They can access the properties. The question is: 1. WHy this happened? Am I doing something wrong?? 2. How can I re-apply this setting on the client machine again? Thank you for your cooperation Tamer Eman Taky <eman_taky yahoo.com> wrote: Dear , there in no relationsh ip between the IP add and the MAC add and you can't guaranteed that the user who change his IP add to what you metioned will not be able to use your resources cause the unwanted IP laying in the same subnet .

Depends where you apply the policy i.e if you apply the policy on a OU called Test then all computers within this OU will effect with you setting , when you dis join and join again the computer will add to the COMPUTER container at your domain,so the solution either to move the computer object to Test OU or to apply the policy on all of the domain , then don't forget to refresh the policy or restart the PC

| Dear Ahmed, DHCP is theservice which provide you the IP. If you secure the IP with MAC address, then the PC first seek the DHCP server > When a DHCP server recieves a request, it checks MAC address and provides the IP address. If you allow IP's for specific service ( such as proxy) , then user will not perform any job if he change his IP himself with another block. For details , read any DHCP service in LINUX documentation site. | Hi Ahmad If none of solution is working then i think that the only solution is as follows as far my knowledge. we can not deny access to a n/w resource for a static IP rather than we can do one thing. change the type of users from standard to restricted then user is not bale to access the IP settings & one of u r problem is get solve & if u want to allow some rights more than restricted user then apply Group policy through u r domain. this will solve u r prob .user can not change the I P setting also & also polices r help full to give him more permission to access n/w resoureces as per u r requriment Always U R's D.Harish
