ampersand entity parsing error

running xsltproc over xml such as:

<media:credit role="Studio Director &amp;
Creative Producer">Joshua
Seftel</media:credit>

produces the error:

error : unterminated entity reference  Creative Producer

This doesn't happen with &lt; so is this just an
oversight of the parser? Please
also reply to   brad_botkinwgbh.org

  No idea whatis happening. A fragment taken out of context
doesn't
allow to juge what is going on. Provide a full XSLT and XML
allowing to
reproduce the problem with xsltproc, as mail attachment to
avoid modification
during mail transmission,
