| Vista, FF - can't save! |

|

Can't save on Vista / FF (3.0b2)! Have now tried all the
system
settings (activX, java script actived/allowed), set the
security level
low, and the tw file has all rights to write.
No matter if I use the newest version or one of my older tw.
- The
script starts but can't save after editing.
Can anyone help plz?

What's the exact error message? Where is your TiddlyWiki
file located -
on a regular HDD drive, I assume?

Have you tried FF2.x instead of the FF 3.0 beta? If the
low-level
file I/O functions changed in FF3, then TW's file saving
might be
returning a spurious error code, resulting in the kind of
message you
are, presumably, seeing.
BTW, when asking a question about a specific problem, it
would be
useful if you included some specific details, such as the
*exact*
error message and step-by-step actions to reliably reproduce
the
problem. Also, when possible, you should post a copy of
your errant
document online and provide a URL (www.TiddlySpot.com is
good for this
purpose), so that people can actually experiment and
sometimes even
directly debug the problem for you!

ok, I reinstalled FF 2.x.
1. Downloaded empty fresh tw (www.tiddlywiki.com) on Desktop
(HDD)
2. Edited 1 tiddler.
3. Save
4. Then the message came: A script is damaged or doesn't
respond.
5. clicked on continue
6. Error: Failed to save main TW... Your changes have not
been saved.
On the error console were 2 lines marked (see link with
screenshots:
http://picasawe
b.google.ch/papamuk/Tw), but as a non-programmer I
don't get what it means.
Further I copy n pasted what was in the java console:

I see now that to my tw-file access was denied, but I
couldn't find
out how to allow access (at system control --> java

What further info's would help?
Thank you so much for helping.

hmmm.... that sounds like perhaps an error in mozSaveFile()
is causing
a "fail through", and is using javaSaveFile() as a
fallback. This is
what happens normally when using Safari or another
non-IE/non-FF
browser that doesn't support direct javascript file i/o).
I don't know if this will work under Vista with FireFox, but
give this
a try:
Install JavaSaver.jar file in the same folder as your
document (see
www.TiddlyWiki.com for a link to the .jar file), and then
define/
modify the .java.policy file on your system to give
explicit
permission to your local TiddlyWiki folder. Note: you might
have to
restart FireFox for the policy change to take effect.

I can't find any obvious errors in mozillaSaveFile() - if
that means the
file I/O is different in Firefox 3, we might have a problem
on our hands...
But then, Firefox 3 is still in beta, so things might be a
wonky there.

except: muk reports the problem occurs in FF2.x as well, so
perhaps it
is a Vista configuration issue?
Even so, if he can get JavaSaver.jar to work under Vista,
then that
might be a better solution, since it offers superior
granularity for
configurating local file I/O permissions (down to the
individual
folder and file), as opposed to FireFox's "everything
running in FILE://
wants permission" approach.

Oh right, I had overlooked that.

Maybe so - but for regular users, having to use TiddlySaver
is not
nearly as comfortable as the usual routine (especially
because it
requires modifying the .java.policy file).

ok - that was frustrating. Couldn't manage to get it working
with FF
2.x, since my rather weak knowledge about java-configuration
and the
always denying security warnings on vista.... BUT I found a
temporary
way for myself thats seems to work:
I use now the browser K-Meleon just for Tiddlywiki &
it's all fine
with that by now.
Strange, thought it more or less the same engine as in FF?
Eric/F- ; let me know if there's anything I can do to help U
solve
that, since I'd be glad to switch to FF again.

Saving works as normal on FF2 and FF3 beta 2, on Vista.
