Hi,

I apologize if this is posted in the wrong mailing list.
Please
advise if this should be posted elsewhere.

I'd like to find a developer to build a Trac plugin to
extend some of
the Trac ticketing system for my company's internal needs.

We have a pretty straightforward job, and I'll try to
describe it in
this post:

We'd like to extend the Trac ticketing system to have unique
ticket
submission forms depending on ticket type.

Specifically, we'd like to open up the Trac ticketing system
to be
used by internal sales and marketing staff, so that sales
and
marketing can submit work tickets to our development staff.
The
existing Trac ticket web form is too generic for sales and
marketing
needs, and so we'd like to design web forms that are very
specifically
tailored to sales and marketing business needs. That is,
when sales
and marketing want to submit a ticket for the development
team, sales
and marketing will go to a straight-forward HTML form
specifically
geared to the type of ticket sales and marketing wishes to
submit.
The submit ticket HTML form will ask all the right questions
from the
sales and marketing team to make sure sales and marketing
provides all
necessary information for the developers to start work.
This form
will submit into the Trac ticketing system so that the sales
and
marketing requests are in-queue with all of the other
developer
tickets.

We'd like to retain the existing trac ticket form, for our
general
developer needs, and so the sales and marketing submit
ticket form is
a new form to complement the existing submit ticket form
already
bundled with Trac.

To recap, we'd like to build new submit ticket forms to
allow sales
and marketing to submit Trac tickets and view their ticket
status.
These new forms for sales and marketing will feature some
extra fields
for sales and marketing that will ensure that sales and
marketing
supply all the right information to get a ticket started in
our
internal workflow. These new forms will complement the
existing trac
ticket forms, not replace.

We have the forms designed, and we are hoping that it will
be a very
straightforward task for an experienced Trac developer to
come in and
build a plugin to handle our needs. We're looking for a
low-cost and
quick solution, however we'd be happy to consider
contributing back
some of the code to the open source community.

If you feel qualified to take on this contract, please
contact me
directly: bnmidr at yahoo dot com

Thanks!

This sounds also pretty much something usable in our
environment too -
altough we would rather provide simplified - yet Trac
compatible ticket
system for our end users so they could report bugs
directly.

I assume you have both checked out
http://
trac-hacks.org/wiki/SimpleTicketPlugin ?

It would be a good place to start.

Nice plugin but not exactly what I'm looking for. A bit more
complex
solution that contains specialized fields for users and
python code
would then compose Trac ticket from it.

Like in our current form (that is not Trac based), there is
this
"severity" selection, that contains 5 levels:
"non critical - workaround
exists", "non critical - no workaround",
"critical - workaround exists",
"critical - no workaround", "critical -
destroys critical data/makes
whole system unusable".

First two are "relaxed" levels. User needs to only
enter description of
bug and that's it. Next two always require reproduction
steps. Last one
also additionally needs always loads of files to be uploaded
on our
system for investigation.

So basically I want to make Trac ticket from all that data.

As speaking of tickets in general, few months ago I needed
to submit bug
report to Oracle. It took whole freaking day to complete
multipage
submit form. I think report contained more than 20 fields to
complete.
some of fields required SQL scripts to be run in db and
output results -
that's really fun...

Thanks for Trac. It keeps things simple.

Jani,

What kind of beer do you like? I forward over a few
kegs...
Seriously, we'd be happy to contract out a developer to
build a custom
plugin for us. Please hit me up if you're interested.

I'm pretty much fan of Finnish lagers and Czech dark
pilsners.

I was having internet shortage for whole weekend (that's
fun, I never
knew how much you can do outside internet...)

Something I haven't seen is are we talking about 0.10 or
upcoming 0.11.

What I have in my mind is to create template(s)/sample(s) so
anyone can
make his/her own ones. It would serve me to get knowing new
0.11
codebase since it has been year or two since I last time did
anything
with Trac.

I guess I should chime in and say that I have been working
on
something just like this for internal company use. It
includes an
interface for environment admins to create new custom ticket
fields,
and customize which fields are displayed in the ticket (as
well as the
order in which they are displayed, and other display
settings)
depending on the ticket type. It is also possible to set
permissions
based on ticket type--for example it is possible to give a
user
TICKET_CREATE permission only for tickets of type 'foo'.

It's fairly flexible--not as flexible as I would like, but
getting
there. At any rate, I just wanted to point out that
something like
what you want is possible to accomplish. My current
solution is based
on Trac 0.11 (at least, in its current form). Also, it's
not as
simple as just a plugin--it requires a fair bit of
modification to the
ticket system.

I am looking to hire somebody to develop this kind of
functionality
for us. Are there any trac developers out there interested
in a short
term contract?

Sounds like there are a number of people with the same need.
