NY Times article about Ubuntu on the new Dells.

circuits/04basics.html
They even link to the Ubuntu home page for downloads.
(I myself cannot wait for the new ATI drivers for my AMD/ATI
based
mobo. GIGABYTE GA-MA69GM-S2H AM2)

And to Automatix. "To watch a movie, the Linux user
must install
necessary codecs, or decoders. One way to do that is to
first download a
program called Automatix from www.getautomatix.com."
It's incredible how pervasive this meme is, and since Feisty
the codec
things even works automatically for most things (except DVD,
and there
is a 2-line command right there in the Ubuntu help in the
System menu).
It just seems to never go away, and new users will keep to
get burnt.

Hi, and yes, this is true. I never
recall that most (if not all?) ubuntu
lists are configured differently than what I'm accustomed
to, and since I'm
using thunderbird, which _still_ lacks the correct
reply-to-list feature,
accidents happen. Sorry
about this.

Yeah, I recall seeing that earlier, but apparently they have
changed their
minds about this, better for all of us really.
Here's the post I was referring to:

No problem. Evolution does the right thing when you press
Ctrl+L, but
has not toolbar button, which I tend to use. And since I
post mostly on
-users, sounder catches me out a lot. In fact, I had to
change the
address to this very mail _

Cool, thanks for the info, and kudos to the Automatix guys
for coming
around.

AFAIK Thunderbird in Ubuntu (at least Feisty) has the
necessary patches
to allow the plugin that implements this to work.

Do you have the plugin installed?

So, this is a regression bug compared to feisty (I'm sure it
worked back
then), this should be a high-priority bug if you file it!

Well, considering that this bug has existed in Mozilla's
bugzilla for at
least 7 years or something like that, I guess they never use
mailing
lists...

Why not use the one in the Ubuntu repositories?

No idea, but it sounds weird indeed.

That one I already have.
