Along Dapper's 3 years of support, it will release updates
for security
and bugfixes. These updates will be issued through the
dapper-updates
repository. However, what if one has an offline install
with no
internet connection? Is there any way to receive these
updates short of
burning the debs to a disk?
God bless,
Lukas

I know at least one person who wanted this functionality
that went ahead
and used Redhat for their (non-network-connected) forensics
workstation
instead. This functionality would have differentiated
Ubuntu from
Redhat easily for them.
Thanks,

I'm confused. If Red Hat offers this functionality, then
it would not
differentiate Ubuntu if it also had it. If Red Hat
doesn't, then why would
he choose it over Ubuntu for this application?

Without a network connection, the updates cannot be
automatically delivered
to your system. Yes, you would need to put them on
removable media and
physically bring them to the machine.

How about X-monthly service pack .iso's containing packages
from
dapper-{security,updates}?

They did not have such functionality anymore (they did at
one point) but
the reason he was more focused on rh or fedora was that most
of the
'security' community writes their 'howto' information
based on fedora or
rh. If it was easier to pull updates and dependencies with
Ubuntu from
a update CD he was willing to figure out how to make things
work with
Ubuntu. Its not crazy, the guy is a netbsd bigot for the
most part, so
reworking directions for another linux distribution seems to
me to be
light work compared to trying to get all of the apps he
wanted running
under netbsd.

Or even a script to generate an ISO would be nice. Worst
case, you
could use dar along with debmirror, i think, and just make
your own dar
set of isos of a snapshot of the updates archive.

If no official solution can be provided I'm going to have
to do this

That would really be ideal.
