Hello all,

I have noticed the brltty service running on my Ubunu 6.06.1. When I tried to remove it, one of the dependencies was ubuntu-desktop.

As far as I know, ubuntu-desktop is an essential part of the system....

While we're at it, there are a bunch of apps (especially KDE card games) that I would like to get rid of and it won't let me for the same reason....

a) I am curious to know why, and b) Any way to remove them?

Thanks!

Ubuntu-desktop is just a "meta-package" -- a
list of other packages.
It's perfectly safe to remove it. You may want to reinstall
it,
however, when upgrading to the next major release of ubuntu,
since the
package is used to keep track of all the
"default" applications on a
standard install.

Thanks for the answer, but I need a clarification:

Should I accept the dependency check and then re-install ubuntu-desktop?

I would just reinstall ubuntu-desktop just before upgrading
to Edgy,
whenever that comes out. So, yes, say uninstalling
ubuntu-desktop is
fine for now.
