Hi all

Attempting to install EDGY (knot-2) on my other partition
- I downloaded and
checked the alternate install ISO, but when it goes to the
partitioner, it
insists my HD is SCSI (SDA1/SDA2 etc). Is this a known bug
or is there something
I can pass on the command line to straighten it out ?

What is it, what sort of controller is it on, and how did it
behave
under previous Ubuntus? Most SATA controllers and some IDE
ones are
driven using the libata system that does indeed make them
appear as
SCSI. If it works anyway there's nothing to worry about.

Its IDE...on a regular IDE controller which every other
Ubuntu flavour
recognized as IDE. First time I've seen something like
this. The partitioner
does recognize the EXT3 file system already on the two
partitions, plus the
swap space, but it insists the two partitions are sda1 and
sda2.

What motherboard and chipset does your computer use? ICHx,
nForcex?

This was a bug/misfeature in the kernel we used on the
knot-2 CDs.
We've since reverted this change, however, so if you use
knot-3 (or a
recent daily), you should be okay. In theory.

I reeally couldn't tell you. Its a Hewlett Packard Vectra
VL8, about 5 or 6
years old, Pentium III 450. Never had this problem before. The
installation is
done now and except for a few glitches (Edgy mounts the
other partition on my
desktop as sda3 ) it seems to run well. Had to change the
grub.menu to reflect
the fact its an IDE (hda2 /hda3).

OK thanks. We'll see how it goes.
