Is there something useful I can do with the "Windows" button on my keyboard? Say something  little more Linux/Ubuntu-esque, like maybe the "Applications" menu or something?

Well, yes - have a look at System-Preferences- Keyboard
Shortcuts,
find something, highlight it and hit the key - for example I
just made my
left "Windows key" do "start terminal "
- is that Linux/Ubuntu-esque
enough? *grin*

You can do the same for the Applications menu - the default
is <alt><F2>
but by the method above you can override that.

Oops I said <alt><F2> was the default for
opening the menu - of course it
is <alt><F1>, sorry.

System -> Preferences -> Keyboard Shortcuts is where you can assign some keys and all that. ; Personally I like using it for shortcut options in amaroK than the generic menu opener.

very cool! If I could get a my other peripherals working
with
Ubuntu/Linux (printer/webcam), I'd have more useful buttons
to use...

Thanks for the tip, Peter!
