Frustrating - I can play my entire (bought and paid for) DVD
collection
on XP but none will play on Ubuntu/Kubuntu amd64.

I have a dual boot Acer Aspire AMD64 TL50 1.6GHz (Turion),
ATI Radeon
Xpress 1100, 2GB DDR so the hardware is identical.

booting the latest kernel 2.6.20-15-generic #2 SMP Fri Apr
13 20:39:41
UTC 2007 x86_64 GNU/Linux

today
I deleted All players and codecs then re-installed via
Automatix2 (just
became available for feisty herd5 amd64).

yesterday
I deleted All players and codecs and re-installed via
apt-get and adept
manager

All players and codecs I could fine have been removed and
re-installed
more than once.

And still I get these messages:

NOTE: I have libdvdcss2 installed ? do I need to do a soft
link or
something ?

TOTEM:
The source seems encrypted, and can't be read. Are you
trying to play an
encrypted DVD without libdvdcss?

GXINE:
Media stream scrambled/encrypted

OGLE: tries to run but displays a zillion messages then
quits:
WARNING[ogle_vout]: tried to write past line-end
**** DP remove this when implemented
**** DP remove this when implemented
*** invalid frame motion type
WARNING[ogle_mpeg_ps]: Found a scrambled PES packet! (1)
snip...
*** skipped blocks in I-picture
*** invalid macroblock type
snip...
WARNING[ogle_vout]: tried to write past line-end
ctrl: ipc_rmid: Invalid argument

This worked on my older i386 desktop PC by default with
feisty 7.04
installed. I no longer have tis Pc available and I prefer
not to boot
the other OS.

I would be most thankful for some ideas on what I am doing
wrong.

phil

Automatix is not supported. I recommend following the
instructions at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedForma
ts/PlayingDVDs .

Or, add the mediabuntu repo's to your sources.list, and
install the
packages 'libdvdcss2 libdvdcss2-dev' which are newer than
the ones
above.

I also had the mediabuntu already added the only package I
did not load
was libdvdcss2-dev

I will add it and try again

is where I started, when it did not work I tried Automatix2,
which did
not work either.
