Do you have a stanza in /etc/yaboot.conf that looks
something like

image=/boot/vmlinux
        label=Linux
        read-only
        initrd=/boot/initrd.img
        append="quiet splash"

The important line there is the "append" line with
"quiet splash" . If that
is missing, edit the file and save it, then re-run
/usr/sbin/ybin

I do have
/etc/yaboot.conf
  image=/boot/vmlinux
        label=Linux
        read-only

        initrd=/boot/initrd.img
        append="quiet splash"
What's next
still don't see boot splash
