I need help. I upgraded to Opera8 without a problem, I
upgraded to Opera9
and now I have no e-mail or bookmarks. I tried the HELP
files but I do not
have the fields referred to.. Also Opera9 seems to have more
features than
I need. I want to return to Opera8 and I promise not to try
another
upgrade. QUESTION: How, if possible, do I return to Opear8
with my
bookmarks and addresses? Please step by step. Thanks.

Thanks, Edward, and all the other brave souls that have
responded to the
prompt "Opera 9 is now available, do you want to
upgrade?"

What I WANT most is for things to work. Extras can wait. I
have a
working system and am loth to try this new version for
several reasons:
A) it seems to cause more trouble than usual;
B) I don't experience a need for anything more;
C) not sure how to find out about what the new version
contains;
D) if this is a major version change, my licence probably
won't be
applicable
E) changing to O8 was not so good: there's no 'save with
images' any more

All in all, it seems that the guys at Opera expect us to
work harder
getting used to each upgrade. At some point the extra work
just isn't
worth it. But how would we know without trying it?
The inexorable upgrade path will be an improvement w.r.t the
developers'
aims, but users' aims are not necessarily the same. IMHO
Microsoft's
success is due to their appreciation of this small fact.

It sounds like Opera was installed in singleuser mode rather
than
multiuser (or vice versa). Try this:

1. Open "OpraDef6.ini", located in the Opera
installation folder, in a
text editor.
2. Under [System], look for "Multi User="
3. Change the number after Multi User= to 1 if it says 0, or
0 if it says
1.

Save the changes and start Opera.

Have you accidentally switched from a single profile to
multiple
profiles, or vice versa?

Many, many people have reported this problem, and in almost
every
case it's been because their old version of Opera was a
single-user
installation and when installing Opera 9 they've overlooked
the
install-time option to retain this and installed a multiple
profile
setup instead. The result is that Opera is looking in the
wrong
place for things like bookmarks and mail. They're not
"lost"; it's
just that the user has told Opera to look in the wrong
place.

There is, it's just a bit harder to find.
Simply do a "Save as", and in the resulting
dialog, change the file type to
"HTML file with images".
