Thread: Unable to Launch Windows Media Player

Unable to Launch Windows Media Player

I recently installed Opera 9 on my XP Pro laptop and
immediately encountered a
problem that I didn't have on the previous version.

I can no longer launch Windows Media Player from a web page
as I could with
version 8.5

For example, on the page

<
http://pipedreams.publicradio.org/listings/0624/>

when I click on the "Listen to the program" link
nothing happens, WMP remains
unlaunched. Even when I manually launch the program it will
not play the link on
the page.

I verified that I still had the necessary plug-ins in the
correct directory from my
previous Opera 8.5 installation, namely ==>
<npds.zip>, <npdsplay.dll>, and
<npwmsdrm.dll>

I tried launching WMP from this same page using Firefox and
IE and had no
problem. Thus, the "problem" is confined to
Opera.

Does anyone have a suggestion for trouble-shooting this
problem?

Thanx

Works OK here. Please check that "opera:plugins"
lists "Windows Media
Player Plug-in Dynamic Link Library".
Then check if
"Tools->Preferences->Advanced->Downloads&quo
t; lists
"video/x-ms-asf".
Select "Edit" and check that "Use
Plug-in" is "Windows Media Player
Plug-in Dynamic Link Library".

Hi:

Thanx for your suggestion regarding my inability to get
opera to open Windows
Media player.

On Thursday, June 29, you suggested

"opera:plugins" lists "Windows Media
> Player Plug-in Dynamic Link Library".

It is listed. And in that list I find the following entry,
among others;

video/x-ms-asf	__________asf,asx,*

"Tools->Preferences->Advanced->Downloads&quo

This also checks out. Unfortunately, I still can't get that
link to play. Can you
suggest any additional steps I might take??

Thanx very much for your help.
