Ongoing download indication

Hi all,

I am running Opera 9.10 and am still experiencing a
conditiion I've had with earlier versions  
(I normally run Opera with the Bookmarks list showing}.
About half the sites I visit download 
normally, with the red X in the toolbar giving away to the
reload icon quickly. Others take a 
long time for the red X to go away. Still other sites,
Google Webmaster Tools, for instance, 
keep the red X active (along with showing an hourglass/arrow
mouse cursor) continuously. 
The only way I have found to get the red X to go away, when
this happens, is to click 
'Panels' twice. Does anybody know that causes this
behavior?
