Hallo

would this really not work in opera (don't see why), or do
they use a stupid browser detection?

http:/
/www.w3schools.com/ajax/ajax_example.asp

click on the input field after 'first name'

It is the most primitive browser detection which bars Opera
from
executing the XHR.
In the script at http://ww
w.w3schools.com/ajax/clienthint.js you will
find the following lines:

  if
(navigator.userAgent.indexOf("Opera")>=0)
     {
      alert("This example doesn't work in
Opera")
      return
    }

You see, the only thing being tested is for the occurence of
"Opera"
in the user agent string.

Actually, the script _does_ work in Opera (8.52).

Please bear in mind that W3 Schools often has misleading or
outright
false examples and that they are in no way connected with
the W3C.

Cheers,

jens

As far as I can tell, it works in the latest weekly build.
If you're using
one of the Opera 9 builds, you can right click anywhere on
the page, click
on site preferences, then go to the network tab and choose
mask as Mozilla
or mask as Internet Explorer *NOT identify as...*. Unlike
identify as...,
which still has Opera in the user agent string, mask as...
completely
takes out Opera from the user agent string.

Hope this helps.

Won't work for me, even if after clicking away the warning each time it lets me enter another letter.

Opera 7.54
