Somewhere, somehow, I discovered that by holding down the
right button
on the mouse, and clicking the left button, ALL the open
bookmark folders
would close.   This was truly handy when somehow, all some
70 folders
in my bookmark list would end up open.  Hope this helps.

Thanks for that tip. It certainly beats closing closing
folders one at a time  I have a
habit of leaving folders open and eventually navigation them
becomes a pain and I am forced to tidy up by closing
some/all folders.
And I have found that holding down the left mouse button and
clicking with the right, opens ALL the folders at once.

Just wait till you've tried this. 

Right arrow key opens focused folder
Left Arrow key closes focused folder
Shift + Right/Left arrow key opens/closes all folders
