Linux is 15 this year! There are a number of LUGs
celebrating this on
Augsut 19th.

NOVALUG and Tux.org are sponsoring a picnic on August 19th
at Lake
Fairfax in Reston Virginia
(http://fa
irfaxcounty.gov/parks/lakefairfax/).  We have picnic
areas C &
D reserved from 12-6PM.

There is the Watermine which is an outdoor water park on the
park
grounds. It is a great family place with a lazy river, 4
water slides
and a pool area. This costs a bit of money but well worth
it.  I'll
look into a group rate should there be interest. Lake
Fairfax also
rents canoes, paddle boats for rent and has a party boat
ride for some
nominal fee.

There are number of activities we can have at the park.
Here's some
ideas:

Music
Bring acoustic music instruments if you want play it at the
event. Note,
however, that park policies do not allow “amplified
sound” (amplifier
and large speaker(s)) with our permit.

Sports & Games
Outdoor games are welcome at the park. We have plenty of
grass to play
on. Here are come ideas:

      * Frisbee, whistling football, and other throwable
items
      * Soccer
      * Bocce
      * Horseshoes
      * Kites
      * Baseball or softball
      * Badminton or volleyball
      * Juggling

Geeky Activities
We may also want to engage in more geeky pursuits. While
there are not
any outlets I am aware of, we might be able to come ideas
like

      * Wifi (Internet access is available but there may be
a fee)
      * Installing & troubleshooting Linux on your
laptop
      * PGP/GnuPG keysignings

There is a campground in the park as well. The services are
more than
adequate for those who wish to use it. This also gets a
discount to the
Watermine!

if you have more ideas or wish to help - please join the
picnic mail
list on tux.org (http://www
.tux.org/mailman/listinfo/picnic) and share
your ideas!

You can check out linuxpicnic.org as an alternate site.
These folks
started the party ... I'd like to out do them!

Remember, all Windows machines are, by definition, fault
tolerant.

              They run Windows don't they!!
