network drives

Hi,
We have recently moved from novell to windows 2003 server OS
and users
are complaining that there is a delay in opening files or
folders  from
network drives. We have noticed that even drive mappings (
through
login script ) takes time to appear in My Computer. Any
tuning needs to
be done on server side ?.

How is DNS configured on users' desktops? I have seen this
behavior
when DNS is configured to point to the local server, as well
as the ISP
server. I've also seen it where DNS is configured to point
solely at
the ISP. Other than that, 2K3 mapped drives should work
great out of
the box for hundreds of users with mapped drives. This is
assuming no
I/O bottlenecks within the server, no bottlenecks on your
switch
infrastructure, and proper DNS server usage.
