Virtual Directory Problem

I have a win2003 sp1 server with sharepoint services
running.
When I try to create a new virtual directory from the
default web site
all appears to create fine.
However when i try to view a simple html page i get Page Not
Found
errors.
I have tried creating through IIS Manager, through web
sharing but to
no avail.
It used to be very simple on win2000, perhaps I am missing
something
new that needs to be done on win2003.

You might have to enable some web extensions, take a look
inside the
IIS Manager, at the bottom you should see a folder called
"Web
Extensions" and see if there are any specific items in
there for
sharepoint that are prohibited.
