Why would you need VNC?  Right click on My Computer, go to
the remote
tab.  Make sure allow users to remotely connect to this
computer is
checked (it is unchecked by default) and then use Remote
Desktop from
Accessories --> Communications on the client computer and
connect via
IP or hostname.  VNC will work, but it's a third party
product, with
it's own set of vulnerabilities.

Exactly! Remote desktop is faster over low bandwidth
connection than
vnc. Also remote desktop brings sound to the local pc as
well. VNC also
uses up more system resources, because you need third party
software
running on the remote machine. VNC is good for XP Home
machines, or as
remote support (so the user can still interact with the
session, and
see how you did it)
