    Can anyone suggest the best way to format an ntfs drive?

Put in your WXP boot CD and format HDD!

Try to use this software Partition Magic Pro 8.05 or you can
download
this mega ALL IN ONE applications and windows utilities (
Hiren's
BootCD 8.6). They got all tools for evey pc. Pls search the
web for
hiren's Boot CD 8.6

My father in-law recommended Partition Majic and it works
very well. I
think Maxtor HDD come with some kind of format software
which is kind
of nice

If you are doing it on a seperate drive than your system
drive I would
just use XP (i.e. right click on the machine and choose
"Format").

If you are doing it to your system drive, I would boot of
off the XP
disk and format the drive.  If you need something to really
really wipe
your drive, look for free software from the web.
