Subject: {WindowsXp Group} "Server busy" pop up
box slows boot up +
opening programs
Dear Group,
This is my first visit, so please forgive any naivity or
poor
descriptions.
The prob':-
When I boot up, it takes longer than it should. Eventually a
pop up box
appears with:-
'Server busy' in the title bar (?)/headline bar.
There is a yellow triangle to the left with a ' ! '.
Writing in the middle, and
3 oblong 'buttons' at the bottom; L to R:- 'Switch to'
'Retry' +
'Cancel'
Inside the box it says:-
"This action cannot be completed because the other
program is busy.
Choose 'Switch to' to activate the busy program and correct
the problem"
Also, a light appears on the computer (below the screen)
which looks a
bit like a light house. This apparently means the computer
is
connecting/connected to the internet..(?).
There is also a lot of the low level grinding churning sound
as if the
computer is working over time.
On booting up, it is as if the computer is in a state of a
major search
and is on a go-slow until this is complete.
In selecting 'Switch to', all this does is bring up the
start menu with
no indication of which is the problem program, even if I go
into
programs.
The original pop up then usually disappears. (This also
happens if I
select 'Retry'). I then also wait for Norton to finish
loading before
opening Outlook. If I don't wait Outlook, gets jammed!
Interestingly, sometimes a further box appears especially if
I leave the
computer idle:-
Title:- "Sony Ericsson PC suite", with dialogue:-
'Unable to create
device management instance'. Buttons at the bottom of Yes +
No do
nothing except close the box.
My problems seem to originate back to when i changed my
mobile phone
from Sony Ericsson 750 to k800i and got a friend to
uninstall the 750
software and install the k800i software.
Note; it is important to me to be able to synchronise my
mobile with
Outlook. I prefer using a USB cable.
Instinctively, I feel there are possibly 2 problems going on
at start
up:- 1) my computer is trying to connect (or is connecting)
to the
internet without being asked; a Trojan? (Norton hasn't
picked it up).
2) the Sony Ericsson programs haven't been
installed/uninstalled
correctly? But maybe it is just 1 problem....or more than
2.
Can anyone help me??
Best wishes,
Steve
