{WindowsXp Group} Welcome Screen Distorted or Reboots - Only opens in safe-mode

When I start my PC it will boot fine until it gets to the
Welcome
screen. It is improperly painted with blocks of the screen
in
different places on the page. I can see my mouse pointer
and it moves
properly but I cannot get windows to react properly. Even
though I
can see a cursor blinking in the pw field windows will not
accept any
keystrokes. The screen goes black and tries to redraw
itslef about
every 30 seconds. Sometimes when windows gets to this point
it just
reboots itself over and over in a loop.

When I login under safe mode everything is fine.

This happened once before to my other PC and I chalked it up
as a
fluke, now I'm sure it wasn't. I am running them both
through a KVM
switch which I suspect may be involved, but that said, after
this
started happening, I plugged the monitor directly into the
PC and had
the same issue.

I made no hardware changes around the time this started
happening.
Have had same config for 6mos to a year now.

My Specs:
AMD Athalon64 3200
WinXP Pro (32bit)
2GB Ram
nVidia GeForce MX4000

I'm at a complete loss and would like to avoid having to do
a full
reinstall of Windows.

Hi ,
;       you can try the following things,
        1) try the Last known good configuration( from the same menu where you select the safe menu) , sometimes it would work.
;    2)  If there were some Device driver updates that was done recently u can try  revoking it.
       3) try also resetting the resolution that you have set when windows boots up ,(safe mode uses by default the 800*600 ) also the refresh rate of your monitor .
;      4) you can always give a try with system restore if you think some software updates caused this.

Thanks and Regards,
