The signal might be too strong. Have seen poor performance
and poor TX 
rate selection under such conditions with other cards. Try
sitting 
between the computer and the AP and investigate power
readings.

Kevin Lo has provided a patch which should fix this issue.
I'll apply it 
shortly.
