GreatSchools.net is a well established 40 person downtown San
Francisco based non-profit looking for a successful, energetic,
hands-on software engineering director or manager (depending on
experience) with a passion for test driven java web development, a
strong technical aptitude, and a track record for delivering high
quality products. We're looking for someone that can lead and mentor a
team of 3-5 software engineers and work as a hands on contributor.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
* Participating in Java web based product development
* Managing implementation of Java infrastructure/platform
frameworks and components
* Providing day to day management and technical leadership to
software engineers
* Overseeing the enhancement and maintenance of key existing
applications
* Participating and leading release engineering and architecture
discussions
* Working with the product group and our SEO consultant on search
engine optimization and metrics/analytics
Job Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have a B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent
degree and 5+ years designing robust, scalable Web applications in
Java. The individual should have proven leadership skills in a
fast-paced demanding environment. Work experience must include:
* Minimum two years experience managing and leading a team of
engineers
* Agile software development experience with either XP or Scrum
* TDD experience (we use JUnit and EasyMock)
* ORM experience (we use Hibernate)
* MVC experience (we use Spring MVC)
* IoC experience (we use Spring)
* Release engineering experience with CVS or Subversion as well as
build systems (we use Maven and CruiseControl)
* RDBMS experience (we use MySQL with replication)
* Technical depth in OOD methodology, Java, Perl, XML, MVC, ORM,
and relational databases (MySQL preferred)
* Must possess high level of enthusiasm and be a strong team player
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
