At first glance, it looked too "pretty" But it
made me keep looking
at it. Once I saw it in the new theme I really began liking
it. It has a
sort of icon look and feel, but I think that is a good thing
for a logo
to have. Overall I like the message it conveys and I think,
if it is
chosen, there should be a page on xar.com that explains what
the new
logo is all about. I vote yes.

Also, for those that want to keep the old logo, I think the
old logo
would still fit nicely into the xartropics theme.

I agree that the Manta being a bit more "roundy"
gives a more organic
feeling. But I kind feel inclined more towards more abstract
logos these
days, mainly because its fancy (here I am, following the
marketing
bandwagon...)

For example, I love the icons of former Macromedia DX
series, and the
Microsoft Office for Mac, which are quite abstract.

Well, I still give this logo a 7 out of 10!

Question: What about proposing other color schemes for
people to have a
look?

Regards,
P.

Well I must say (again) I agree with the whole organic
feeling of the Manta.
But perhaps we could see other color schemes, but still
following the whole
blue/ocean thematic? I was thinking something like PEACEFUL
PACIFIC, DEEP
BLUE ATLANTIC, etc.

Ah! I know what was holding me up about the logo... It's the
gradient! Not
sure a gradient is a good idea for a logo. I like when logos
are
multicolored (e.g.: Microsoft Dynamics, Office, Ubuntu,
etc.) but the
gradient is a bit too much (me thinks).

Cheers,
P.

Well, first off, I quite like the original (or previous or
whatever).
But I also like this one, it's pretty cool!
I'm not sure how easy it would be to color differently to
fit with
other color schemes (as it has quite a lot of colors). Also
it has
'direction' (i.e. left to right) so it works on the left
side of the
page, but wouldn't on the RHS.

I'm only supportive of a new logo if it also goes hand in
hand with a
new phase, or fresh start, the Xaraya project...

cheers

Many aspects of graphic design are tied to the direction in
which the
text is read. In western languages, this happens to be left
to right,
so the manta moves in this direction to imply forward motion
or
progress. If it was placed on the right side of a page,
it's
effectiveness would rely on the rest of the layout, I
think.

If you're talking about eye motion, the left to right
movement was
deliberate, also to imply progress.

I do have the logo as an Adobe Illustrator file, so it
wouldn't be
diffucult to apply other colors to it.

Yes, a new logo is part of the process of jumpstarting the
project.

When I started this process, there was a lot more going on
than just the
gradient, but it was too busy. It also just had multiple
blue shades...
the green didn't come into play until I decided to go
tropical instead
of just aquatic.

Perhaps later tonight I'll put up more images with different
colors.

The frame may look like a cage. I would like to have a free
manta, see

I didn't thought of that. Mainly because the manta is bigger
than the cage.
It gives an idea of expansion, greatness, etc.
