Hi everybody,

we have an issue with Xen version delivered with SLES-10
SP1. After a
while all domainUs are unreachable from the network point of
view.
Login to the console still works. But domainUs can not ping
other
domainUs nor domain0. SSH login to domain0 still works.
Unfortunately
there is no error in the logs.

We have opened a call at HP, our support partner for
SLES-10. They
pointed us to Cool Solutions from Novell where we found a
Xen 3.1
version for SLES-10 X86-64 but not for X86 32 bit. Besides
that this
package seems to be only for a full virtualized environment
because
there is no kernel-xen RPM in it. Same issue with XTP where
the new
updates tar.bz2 with build number 0.47 also don't provide
kernel-xen
RPMs.

Anybody else experiencing this network connection problems?
What about
an update for paravirtualized Xen environments?

What about the roadmap of Novell with SLES-10 and Xen?

Thanks in advance.

Tobias

This may be related to bug #289569; see below.

Indeed. I was not aware of this build of xen-3.1 on Cool
Solutions, but I can't recommend it. It's not from the team
that has done Xen in the SLES products, and hasn't been
through the same QA process, and (as with most things on
Cool Solutions) isn't supported.

The 0.47 build on XTP is a preview of the Xen maintenance
update that should be available in the update channel any
time now. It works with the SLES 10 SP1 kernel. I do not
think that this maintenance update will fix any networking
issues, however.

Your problem sounds similar to bug #289569 (which is marked
Novell internal, sorry). Do you use any vlan interfaces in
dom0? If so, this is likely the issue. We have a patch you
can try, and expect to have the fix in a later update to
Xen.

If you don't use vlans, then I don't know what the issue may
be. Resolving through Novell Support would likely be
fastest, or file a bug at bugzilla.novell.com.

We are working on maintenance updates for SLES 10 SP1. As I
am not product management, I can't comment beyond that...

Hi Charles,

thanks for your reply. I will give the bug fix a try.
Although we are
not using vlans right now in our Xen environment we plan to
use them.
Our network team strongly recommends using vlans and Windows
guys are
using it for their virtualization environment based on
VmWare
products.

Where may I find the fix related to bug #289569?

Thanks again.
