Yes, there is an internal pattern that is still in a rough
stage. I
wrote about this idea last year on my blog. You can find my

The article is a little provocative... there are some
interesting
wrinkles in using endless scrolling with search results.
With the Y!Mail beta, the scrollbar is set to the number of
messages
you have. On desktop apps, the scrollbar handle will get
smaller and
smaller providing you a visual representation of the page
size:data
size. However, some browser scroll bars will only reduce to
a fixed
minimum size. The result is the handle is easier to grab,
but much
jumpier (resolution of a drag is coarser).
So the answer is yes, with the caveat of the minimum limit
to the
scroll bar handle.
I hope to get a pattern out about this in the near future.
