Need help...sending a ".com" as text leaves site and searches entire web automatically..

I've noticed that if I put something like 'yahoo.com' into my site's 

local search box, it will search the entire web for 'yahoo.com', instead 

of just searching my domain.  I have a 'site' variable in the URL 

pointing to my domain and it doesn't change.  Any ideas on how I can get
