Hi Mike:

I don't have a solution for rythmbox.  However I've found
that xmms can
play mp3 files rather nicely, and certainly looks better
doing it.

Just remember to select the mp3 file from within the
playlist.  Click
on the + File button within the Playlist and then choose the
directory
in which the file or files reside.  xmms should go from
there and play
your selection.
