Hi,

I plan to upgrade to version 6 on my PS3. I am concerned about the upgrade methodology. Namely do I need to repeat the entire procedure that I used to install version 5. My real concern is that I do not want to again reformat my PS3 hard drive since the back up and restore features of the native PS3 operating system did not seem to work well. ;

If there is an installation (upgrade) procedure for an existing yellowdog partition on a PS3 please point me to that procedure.

I'v asked the similar question before. I think the
short answer is that upgrading between major releases
(such as from 5.0.x to 6.0) is not a good idea and not
officially supported.

BTW, you don't need to reformat the PS3 hard drive.
Simply install the 6.0 over the existing 5 version
partition (i.e. avoid the repartition step under gameos
and later choose clearing all existing linux partition when
installing 6.0).

Hope this helps.

Hi Ross:

I've used YDL for a long time, my experience has been that
as long as
the partition structure remains present and good enough for
Anaconda to
recognize and write to it, there is no reason to fret. All
those other
preparatory steps you did the first time around should be
uneccessary.

Anaconda will see the partitions created during the last
install of YDL
5 and write over it as it proceeds to install YDL6, if you
allow it to
do so. Mucking about in manipulating the partitions
themselves and
removing prior data is possible of course, but uneccessary
as the
available space will be utilized for YDL 6.

Good Luck...
