Are there any tests-MRI, Ultra-sound, etc. that would help assess the
sphincter function? Has anyone ever had a contrast barium enema? I
don't think that really helps with the very lower end? What about
seeing a surgeon for advice so you can avoid surgery? When calling
around, you get told to not make an appt. unless you want surgery.
My CRS/proctologist had me have "anal manometry" done. They put
a 'probe' in my sphincter area and had me 'rest,' 'squeeze,' and 'push'
to see what the pressures were. It took about 45 minutes or less and I
just had to do 2 enemas in the morning of the testing. Not too bad
really.
I'd keep calling to find a doctor who will discuss your situation with
you. The CRS/proc I have uses surgery as the last option. Best wishes to you! Trish
