hiya,

I have a biology question.....a fissure is tear in the anus right? so,
does it tear the muscle as well? in whihc case how is that different
to a LIS where they cut the muscle?

The reason for my question is, can a chronic fissure actually weaken
the sphincter muscle and lead to muscle problems?

thnaks for explaining!

Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor and don't even play one on television,
but since having the Butt Demon have done a lot of reading and research.

The fissure is a tear in the thin tissue of the anus. It is not a tear
in the muscle. In fact, most people with a fissure have tighter than
normal sphincter tone (we are tight-asses!) and that keeps stretching
the tear, preventing healing. Since there is not much blood flow to
the anal tissue, healing is difficult anyway. The LIS eases the
pressure from the sphincter, allowing the torn tissue to (hopefully!)
heal. As you've no doubt heard others say, the risk of incontinence
after surgery is very small.
