Hi T,
I know we've chatted offline, but I have a few more responses to your
new post. I am anxious to hear the replies about LIS since it was
not successful for me, but I've heard & read such great things about
it. Here are some stats I found on healing rate times after LIS
(~85% by 1 month!):

I would certainly hold off on the colonoscopy & see what a CRS has to
say first. I did not have to have one since they could easily see my
fissure. I think it depends on age & family history too. My Grandpa
had Colorectal cancer but was pretty old when he had it. I think
they said they do recommend I start getting colonoscopies when I'm 40
(30 now).
I know I'm harping, but I really hope you'll try the Benefiber since
I know of so many people it helped, including myself & I've tried
everything. If you are even considering some of these more extreme
measures, I think Benefiber (3 Tablespoons spaced out a day) should
be tried first. If that's not enough to keep you regular (going
everyday) & soft, then I'd add Miralax. In fact, this is what my CRS
recommended exactly--gives out a sheet with this info on it.
A pro & con to keep in mind with the LIS surgery. Pro is that it has
healed a lot of people. Con is that it does give you another cut to
heal & fissure still has to heal on its own (but hopefully LIS helps
promote healing). I recommend the closed LIS procedure where they
stitch the wound site as from what I've read you can heal in an
average of a couple weeks as opposed to over a month (or longer) with
the open procedure. I had the open done but this detail was never
even discussed with me beforehand. Here's a link with some stats on
open vs. closed:

Glad you are gathering info & hope you get some reassuring answers!
