Has anyone here used Microsoft SharePoint server? Someone
at work
loaded it on a blade server at work and we were invited to
try it.

After looking at for a few hours I came away with a very
positive
impression.

My team mate and I have been working with IBM WebSphere
Portal Server
for a good many months, and this was an a refreshingly
different
experience.

Any thoughts on the subject most welcome!

Phil, if it's Sharepoint 2007 (versus 2003), it's an
outstanding tool. It
can get out of control pretty quickly, but you can't beat it
for an almost
free collaboration tool.

Thanks for the feedback, Bill! I have not used .NET since
Visual Studio
2003 and .Net framework 1.1. So is it correct to say that
I'll
need .Net framework 2.0 and Visual Studio ...hmmm version
X.X to develop
these portlet-like "web parts"? (or is there a
Sharepoint developer IDE
that is more suitable?)

After almost a year of WebSphere Portal Server and using RAD
this
SharePoint seems like a dream....

I'd also be happy to hear any experiences anyone may have
with
SharePoint, we are implementing MOSS 2007 as the replacement
for all our
external public facing web portals. As a software developer
I am
undertaking some training in the next few weeks as
SharePoint is fairly
new to me.
