Assessing Mastery in Clinical Education

I am curious to know how some of you are assessing "mastery" in clinical education.  With the move to critical thinking models in assessment and the requirement to have our athletic training students demonstrate mastery of clinical proficiencies, has anyone developed a model or assessment tool that is somewhat objective in measurement?  If so, could you provide a simple demonstration to this listserv?  Thank you.
