Don,
We take on a team approach in making decisions that affect the program.
I think it is a mistake to exclude those that are performing as clinical
instructors from the academic decisions involving in managing an AT
program. I think the clinical staff should question and have input in
decisions made from the academic faculty. I do not like the trend of
academic and clinical separating from each other. Communication to the
clinical staff on CAATE's requirements is the key to success, especially
when they disagree on a policy change that based on these standards.
I continually discuss with our staff why I have to make decisions and
they provide feedback in a way that is constructive. In short don't
separate the clinical and academics of your athletic training education
program. I believe the program and inevitably the students will suffer
from such a move.
