I was hoping someone out there could help me with this question. Our equipment provider, Riddell, is marketing an "ozone" treatment for athletic equipment as part of their reconditioning package. They are stating that it eliminates MRSA and odors from the equipment.
My first question is if this is a true statement or if it is slick advertising? Not that any of these companies would try to fool us or scare us into believing that this is necessary to ensure our athletes live or die.
My primary concern is that ozone is still a hazardous gas is it not? Does anyone have any experience with this type of reconditioning method? Does it affect the pads, plastic, or foam of the pads? Are there any alternatives to off-season conditioning of football pads for odor or germ elimination?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
